Ubuntu
(The Art of Being Human in Inhumane Times)
Within this gathering of open-hearted minds, we shall journey into the sacred realm of Ubuntu, a philosophy proclaiming that a person is a person through others. Ubuntu invites us to weave threads of humanity that transcend the confines of cultural, political, spiritual, and socio-economic differences.
Begins Wednesday, Dec 11th at Noon ET
Invitation to Reconnect
In the drumbeat of today’s world, it is easy to become lost, each of us like solitary trees in a vast forest. Yet, Ubuntu teaches us that we are part of a greater, living ecosystem.
This talk intends to inspire each participant to rekindle that ember of connection within to build communities woven with trust and shared purpose.
This talk intends to inspire each participant to rekindle that ember of connection within to build communities woven with trust and shared purpose.
Our exploration will focus on the principles of Ubuntu which offer a framework for unlocking individual inner well—being:
- Survival
- Solidarity
- Respect
- Compassion
- Dignity for all beings
We will understand how these principles serve as a beacon, guiding us toward a harmonious existence where our differences are honored yet do not divide us.
Embrace the call to "be the change," embodying these moral principles as living testaments for the younger generation and for each other. In this way, we become role models who illuminate a path for others to follow, fostering a world that cherishes unity amidst diversity, much like a symphony composed of varied instruments.

Participants will be guided through an exercise of moral imagination —a dance of creativity and empathy that illuminates new stories of connection.
- We shall craft narratives that center on our common ground.
- Stories that dissolve the barriers built by misunderstanding and fear
This storytelling session will serve as a sacred seed to germinate gatherings and conversations within neighborhoods and communities. In these spaces, we shall set aside differences and form new social contracts rooted in the timeless ideas of interconnection and interdependence that Ubuntu so beautifully provides.
- How can we embody the spirit of Ubuntu in our daily lives, becoming conduits for respect and compassion?
- In what ways can storytelling bridge the divides we perceive among us, nurturing a collective narrative of belonging?
- How might our communities transform if they were built upon the pillars of solidarity and dignity for all beings?
- What ingredients could help us create a new art of gathering in the times that we are in for a shared flourishing future?
As the Akan of West Africa says:
"Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it."
Together, we shall reach for this wisdom, recognizing that the strength of one branch lies in the tree's strength.
We need new neighborhoods of wisdom keepers, and it is in gathering, listening, and sharing that we may all come away as stewards of Ubuntu, carrying its light into our lives and those we touch.
Let us embrace our role in a tapestry of humanity as intricate as beautiful, nurturing a world that thrives on interconnectedness.
